Zand Hotels’ are the world’s first hotels constructed out of sand which have opened in two Dutch towns, Oss and Sneek. The hotels are opened to commemorate sand sculpture festivals held at this place each year. The pop-up hotels have furnished one-room suites that are hidden inside eight-meter sculptures. One of the hotels is modeled after the iconic Bedrock homes from the Flintstones. The other one has more of a Chinese theme, with dragons, the Terracotta Army and the Great Wall of China as decorations. The basic structure is made of thin concrete walls, covered on the inside and outside with reinforced sand and this ensures that the walls don’t crumble.
