Egypt Tourism to develop new tourist area in El Alamein
Fifteen companies including Egypt Air and Egypt Tourism and more than 450 companies from the travel trade in India attended the Egypt Tourism roadshow held recently in Mumbai. This was part of the pan India roadshows being held by Egypt Tourism for travel agents to explore the opportunities of cooperation and to extend their knowledge about the uniqueness and variety Egypt offers to visitors. Speaking to Express TravelWorld, Ismail Hamid Amer, Egyptian Tourism Counselor and regional director said, “In Mumbai 150 agents attended our roadshow, in Ahmedabad 120, Bengaluru 110 and Kochi 95. We also organised special seminars in Mumbai during the roadshow. One was The Experts Meet which was the corporate MICE workshop where MICE Experts and Indian corporates interacted with Egypt Tourism and Egyptian DMCs. The second was The Film workshop – where film and entertainment producers of India met with Egypt Tourism.”
Commenting on the MICE opportunities in Egypt, he said, “We are promoting four cities for MICE – Cairo, Alexandria, Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada. We don’t promote Luxor for MICE because it doesn’t have the big capacities. When we promote MICE we are talking of huge venues that can accommodate more than 1000 pax which we have in the four main cities. We are developing a new beach resort in El Alamein which is known for a decisive 1942 World War II battle. This will be a new tourist area which will be ready by 2020. We are also promoting film tourism in a big way and we are speaking to Indian TV channels. Recently a Bollywood film Aiyaary was shot in Egypt.”
