Thomas Cook taps into India’s m-commerce with Holiday App
Thomas Cook India has launched Thomas Cook Holiday App. Driven by adoption of data consumption on mobile devices, research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) expects India to overtake USA as the second-largest global smartphone market by 2017.
The app offers searching, selecting and buying experiences. Given Boston Consulting Group’s data, that in addition to booking, 95 per cent of Indians use digital resources equally to plan trips and share experiences, the Holiday App is aims to empower that segment with tools like Experiential Search. The app features a range of around 1000 holiday options, booking services for flights, hotels and forex, and visa and travel insurance assistance.
Amit Madhan, chief operating officer – IT and e-services, Thomas Cook India, said, “With India’s mobile commerce market expected to grow exponentially by 850 per cent to US$ 19 billion by 2019, and with Cisco projecting a near five-fold jump in India’s smartphone users, to 651 million by 2019, this translates to a powerful yet underleveraged market for holidays; hence the launch of the Holiday App is timed perfectly to harness this potential.”
The mobile application is currently available on Android platform and is expexted to be launched on iOS.
