New international airport opens in Salalah, Oman
New international airport opens at Salalah in Oman. The new airport is one of the most modern airports in the world and boasts of the latest facilities and equipment designed to provide high quality services to passengers from their arrival to final boarding. The Salalah airport includes a passenger terminal of more than 65,000 square meters and can accommodate two million passengers per annum. It has a four kilometer long and 75-metre wide main runway which can receive the biggest aircraft including the Airbus A380. The airport also has the latest air navigation and auto landing systems as per international standards and regulations and 57-metre high control tower equipped with modern systems and technologies.
The new airport includes 29 lifts, 13 escalators and eight tubes for passengers to board the aircraft. It also includes a VIP lounge in addition to a car parking area that accommodates 2,200 vehicles including VIP and taxi parking lots. While operations at the newly constructed Salalah Airport started on June 15, when Oman Air’s flight WY-903 became the first scheduled flight to land at the airport, the official opening will be held in November to coincide with the Sultanate’s celebrations of the 45th National Day.
The new airport is expected to increase tourism receipts to Salalah and Oman overall. Salalah will soon witness the Khareef (rainy) season prompting tourists from all around the world to visit the region to enjoy the unique cool weather.
