Flemingo International awarded duty free concessions at nine airports in India

Flemingo International has been awarded the contract to operate the duty-free concession at nine airports across India. Flemingo will operate at airports in Chennai, Kolkata, Calicut, Trichy, Mangalore, Goa, Ahmedabad, Amritsar and Lucknow.

Atul Ahuja, CEO, Flemingo International, said, “We are pleased to continue our longstanding relationship with Airports Authority of India (AAI) and to get another proof, in face of stiff competition, that our approach is a winning one. This win reaffirms our position as the number one duty free player in the region.”

“Flemingo’s footprint will be visible to international travellers as Chennai and Kolkata airports are among the top five international airports with connections to all the major destinations across the world,” Ahuja added.

The contract duration for all the concessions, except Trichy, is seven years. The Trichy concession will run for 10 years. The new concession will now run from 2016 to 2023 and cover liquor, tobacco, confectionery, perfumes and cosmetics, fashion and accessories, electronics, and destination categories.

Commenting on this development, Deepak Shastri, APD, Chennai International Airport, AAI, said “We are delighted to have Flemingo International to partner us in bringing alive the retail and duty free concepts at the international airports across India. This partnership has worked for us in the past and now we are looking forward to new concepts to provide passengers a world class duty free shopping experience.”

Flemingo India will now be headed by Anirban Dutta Chowdhury, who joined Flemingo India recently as the CEO from Nuance Group India.

Shastri further said, “The company has developed a detailed understanding of the changing needs of Indian passengers over the last few years and has proposed a retail offer which is global in its appeal. We are confident that we will continue to delight the passengers passing through these airports.”
