Akkulam Tourism Village, a prominent tourist centre in Kerala, is set to get a new lease of life. State Minister for Tourism, Devaswom and Co-operation, Kadakampally Surendran inaugurated the work for the second phase of the tourism village, at an outlay of INR 5 crore. The second phase aims to turn the village into an activity centre with facilities for visitors to spend an entire day. “The coming days would see this centre rising like a Phoenix from total destruction, and the project would be completed in 18 months,” said Surendran.
He opined that there have been more efforts to close down the centre than to revive it in the past few years. “The government is planning to form a tourism policy that would better the lives of local residents,” he commented. The second phase will see the village sporting a modern music fountain, artificial waterfall, amphi theatre, art installation, cycling track, ropeway, restaurant, parking area, and yoga and meditation centre.
An adventure tourism project, landscape beautification, and a cricket pitch are also part of the project. The 2.5 acre plot on the hilltop will be developed as a view point, keeping its wildness intact. The pond and its premises will be renovated, and small boats will be provided for visitors.
