Chail Cricket Ground, Himachal Pradesh
Located in the scenic hill station of Chail, Himachal Pradesh, the Chail Cricket Ground is the highest cricket ground in the world. The cricket loving Maharaja of Patiala, Bhupinder Singh had made Shimla his summer capital but when Lord Kitchener blocked his entry to Shimla, the Maharaja discovered a hilltop for his new summer capital and built a cricket ground on it. Covered by deodar and pine trees, the Maharaja used to play cricket with the British at that time. From 1893, the ground has also been used as a polo ground situated at a height of around 2,144 metres. It’s 7500 feet above sea level and the Chail Military School uses it as the school playground. Visitors are also welcome to relish the splendid views of Shimla, Kasauli and Sutlej Valley at night from here.
