The capital city and the second largest city of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, Magdeburg was one of the most important medieval cities of Europe. Today, the face of the city of Magdeburg is not only characterised by historic medieval buildings, quaint Baroque facades and monumental districts, but also by its modern architecture. The river Elbe runs right through the heart of the city and offers an idyllic landscape that is an ideal setting for boat trips, bicycle tours, walks and strolls.
