King Island, Australia
King Island is located 80 kms off the north-west coast of Australian state Tasmania, and is accessible by air from Melbourne, Launceston and Burnie-Wynyard. The island is surrounded by a rugged coastline, which is known for fresh seafood and other produce. Attractions on King Island are varied – from a lighthouse and offshore shipwrecks, to the island’s nature walks and unique wildlife, including the elusive platypus and rare orange-bellied parrots. There are also two golf courses on the island, Cape Wickham and Ocean Dunes. Also popular among visitors is the museum and cultural centre in the town of Currie and a DIY trail of the island’s produce, culture, history, flora and fauna.
