Gwalior is renowed for its hilltop fort, which is famously described as “the pearl amongst fortresses in India”. Historically, the city has been the cradle of a number of dynasties that ruled it over the years. Their influence can be seen in various regal structures that dominate the cityscape. Gwalior holds a distinct reputation in Sangeet (music), and has retained Indian traditions and the art of music intact over the years. The Tansen music festival is celebrated every year on Tansen’s tomb in Gwalior. Some of the tourist attractions in the city include Gwalior Fort, Gujari Mahal, Sarod Ghar, Tansen Memorial, Mansingh Palace, Jai Vilas Palace amongst others.
