Aurangabad
Home to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Ajanta and Ellora, Aurangabad is named after Aurangzeb, the Mughal emperor. The city is also known for another architectural legacy – Bibi Ka Maqbara, the mausoleum of Emperor Aurangzeb’s wife. This monument is an imitation of the Taj Mahal at Agra and is popularly known as the ‘Taj of the Deccan’. Other must visit places are the three museums housing the art treasures of the region- the Sunheri Mahal Museum, the University Museum and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Museum. Visitors can also spend a few pleasant hours in the panoramic Bani Begum Gardens.
