Tourism sector in MP gets industry status

On the occasion of World Tourism Day, the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (MPTDC) announced aggressive tourism plans while the state government granted industry status to the tourism sector. The corporation also announced a progressive state tourism policy which highlighted 10 new areas where it will develop special tourism circuits mainly Indira Sagar, Gandhi Sagar, Bansagar, Sanchi, Orchha, Mandu, Khajuraho, Datia, Tavanagar-Madhai and Tamia-Patalkot. The corporation also honoured its staff across the board.
MPTDC is also looking at increasing its tourism budget from Rs 25 crores to Rs 40 crores in the coming years. Apart from this, the corporation plans to introduce 20 new buses. According to Tukoji Rao Puar, minister of Tourism and youth affairs, Madhya Pradesh, “We are committed to making the state as the number one in the country for tourism offerings. For this we are mobilizing even our junior most staff and are also working towards reducing taxation to make the product tourism friendly.”
