Indiatourism and Phoenix Marketcity jointly hosts ‘Discover India Fest’
Indiatourism, Mumbai (ministry of tourism, Government of India) and Phoenix Marketcity Kurla in collaboration with the States of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Goa and Tamil Nadu have jointly organised ‘Discover India Fest’ in the Phoenix Market City Mall, Kurla, Mumbai from December 20- 22, 2013.
‘Discover India Fest’ will showcase the best of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu and IRCTC in its utmost glory. During this event these States will be offering exclusive discounts on their various package tours and accommodation. The event is a celebration of pristine beauty, diversity, heritage and culture of multiple states, it will also enthrall the audience with the exuberant culture through traditional and folk dance forms of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Some very unique dance forms have been prepared for the audience exclusively for Discover India Fest. Dance forms are closely knit with the culture, history and personas of the states they come from; below are some of the dances which will be performed at ‘Discover India’:
Raai Dance: Raai is a classical dance from Madhya Pradesh. It is a duet and competition between the beats of the drum and the dancer feet movements. The drummer and the dancer try to win each other and this competition leads towards the bliss.
Tarpa Nritya: A popular theme inspired by famous Warli paintings made in Bordi Dahanu, Tarpa nritya is most vibrant form of tribal dance. Also known as Adivasi Nritya.
Ballya Folk Dance: A heartwarming performance to invoke Lord Ganesha, it focuses on the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. They are young lads who have moved from small villages to cities and work as domestic helps.
Koli: The fishermen dance of Maharashtra has been a theme of many hit Bollywood numbers. Koli dressed in colourful attire dance in two groups signifying their profession and the dancers display the rising and falling of waves and their process of casting nets.
Arun Srivastava, regional director, Indiatourism (ministry of tourism, Government of India), Mumbai, said, “Discover India Fest” is a great opportunity for audiences to celebrate the diverse culture and tradition of various states under one platform. Audiences can also avail exclusive discounts offered by tourism departments of participating States and IRCTC and finalise their travel plan for the coming holidays.”
Dr. Jagdish Patil, managing director, MTDC said, ” Apart from travel offices, national and local tour operators our stall will showcase local arts, crafts of Maharashtra. This time we are also having stalls who will be providing details of film city and studio tours which will be an eye catch for the people. Apart from that our stalls will also be exhibiting local arts and crafts and amazing packages for Konkan region which will draw major attractions for three days event.”
