Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is all set to develop the tourism potential of Lonar in Vidarbha region of the state. Lonar is world famous for its crater, which was created by a meteoric impact. According to Jagdish Patil, MD, MTDC, in addition to the INR 5 crores that had been sanctioned earlier, another INR 5 crores has been approved to develop Lonar. The key projects are: a modern astronomical observatory, which will be the fourth in India; a science park; and a museum. Land has already been acquired for this. Patil spoke about these initiatives at the ongoing 28th Annual IATO Convention in Mumbai.
