Need for improved air connectivity to Buddhist spots

The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) had recently organised an interactive session on ‘Introducing Air Connectivity to Bodh Gaya’. “The government of India must focus on potential states like Bihar for an inclusive growth of India’s already booming tourism sector. Bodh Gaya already has international connectivity and hence domestic air connections are imperative,” said Susmita Shekhar, secretary general of PHDCCI, she urged the government to facilitate the introduction of air connectivity to Bodh Gaya through Gaya International Airport and deliberate on growth of airport infrastructure at Bodh Gaya. Present on the occasion was the chief guest Sunil Kumar ‘Pintu’, minister for Tourism, Bihar.

Captain Deepak Shastri, airport director, Airport Authority of India opined that the air connectivity should not be only facilitated between Delhi and Bodh Gaya but also between all the Buddhist circuits in the country. “There should be collaborative initiative and action between state tourism ministries and airline authorities to introduce special air connectivity to Buddhist spots,” he said, adding that a six-lane expressway should be built to connect Ranchi and Patna as well.

Bihar Tourism Ministry has created a 360 degree virtual tour of Bihar. Pintu announced that the same would be released before August 15, 2012. He also mentioned that a four-lane connecting roadway is being constructed to improve the travel between Bodh Gaya and Patna.
