Air Seychelles to reintroduce direct flights from Mahe and Mumbai

Air Seychelles, the national carrier of Seychelles will reintroduce direct flights between the Island of Mahe and Mumbai on December 1, 2014. The minister of tourism and culture, government of India and his counterpart from the Government of Seychelles had a meeting on August 4, 2014 to discuss about the direct flight connectivity. Air Seychelles will fly thrice weekly to Mumbai and one can reach Seychelles within four hours.

Speaking about the introduction of the direct flight, Alain St Ange, minister of tourism and culture, Government of Seychelles, said, “India is one of the biggest potential markets for Seychelles. Presently, the total number of Indian tourist arrival in 2013 was 2381 and by introduction of a direct flight between the two countries, this figures will go up gradually. Another major reason behind the introduction is India provides a huge workforce in the construction segment to Seychelles.”

The ministry of civil aviation, Government of India has officially lodged an application for Air Seychelles to land in India. In the coming two weeks, the ministry of civil aviation of both the countries are meeting to finalise and sign a bilateral agreement. Also, there is no visa requirement in Seychelles for an Indian tourist and one can acquire a 30 day visa-on-arrival which can be renewed for another month.
