Bali Arts Festival, Denpasar
Each year on the streets of Denpasar in Bali, the Bali arts festival takes place showcasing the Balinese arts through several music and dance performances. To celebrate this festival, the towns are decorated in traditional bamboo and coconut decorations. Comprising of shows, exhibitions and parades, the performers are dressed in colourful and vibrant hues of yellows, blues and pinks. Tapping their feet to the beating drums, the artists carry out elaborate flower-adorned floats. There are outdoor stages and pavilions set up to showcase the immense talent of Bali to the entire island. Classical dances like legong, gambuh, kecak, barong, baris, mask dances and even contemporary dance choreography which is performed here are derived from old village dances and activities. The festival ends with ‘sendratari’, a traditional ballet dance held at the Ardha Candra stage. Starting in June, visitors can witness the month long festival and look at some of the best artwork at the Taman Werdhi Budaya Arts Centre here.
