Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim, is considered an ideal base to travel through the state. Located on a ridge at a height of 5,500 ft, the town was once an important transit point for traders travelling between Tibet and India. Gangtok offers an interesting mix of cultures and communities. The town is also known for the views of Mt Khangchendzonga. MG Marg, the main street of Gangtok town is a popular tourist place and country’s first litter and spit free zone; no vehicular traffic is allowed into the road. It also serves as the venue for the annual Gangtok Food and Culture festival held in December every year when Sikkim’s multi-cultural cuisine, along with music and dance performances are showcased. Some of the major tourist attractions in and around Gangtok include Titanic Park, bi-cable Zig-back ropeway, Khangchendzonga range, Ganest Tok, Baba Harbhajan Singh Memorial Temple, Bakthang Waterfalls, Chogyal Park, Enchey Monastery among others.
