Let’s travel together.

Understanding Indian air travellers

Emirates Airline recently conducted a survey, aimed at understanding the habits and attitudes of air travellers across Indian cities. The survey was open for Emirates passengers as well as non- passengers, at airports and malls across Mumbai, Hyderabad and Trivandrum.

The survey was concluded with brief interviews of the 1,100 respondents, 27 per cent Emirates passengers and non-travellers (non-passengers and never-travelled); 46 per cent other international travellers. The responses were further analysed to create a demographic profile of air travellers and understand the journey habits (pre, during and post) of travellers from Mumbai, Hyderabad and Trivandrum. The insights also facilitated identifying the travellers’ perceptions and attitudes towards activities such as ticket booking, pre-boarding planning and in-flight activities.

Findings of the survey indicates that 50 per cent of the respondents from Mumbai witnessed people flying most for vacation and leisure whereas, 53 per cent of respondents from Hyderabad travelled for business and official visits the most.

The survey also revealed that Hyderabad travellers prefer booking tickets in the morning and plan the trip well in advance, as compared to Mumbai, to avail best offers and price deals on flight tickets. Another result of the survey indicated that air travellers, men or women, are equally concerned about their appearances when they arrive at the destination. This brings to light the importance of the added services that airlines are introducing on flights.

On the entertainment front, it was observed that people look forward to travelling, to watch a movie. Airline mobile apps drive more user traffic than the e-commerce travel portals, for the ‘on-the-go’ travellers of Mumbai, Hyderabad and Trivandrum, indicating the shift from desktop to increasing mobile platforms.
