A total of 70,045 tourists arrived in April 2016 on e-Tourist Visa as compared to 19,139 during the April 2015, registering a growth of 266 per cent. During January- April 2016, a total of 3,91,094 tourist arrived on e-Tourist Visa as compared to 94,998 during the same period last year, registering a growth of 311.7 per cent.
This high growth may be attributed to introduction of e-Tourist Visa for 150 countries as against the earlier coverage of 43 countries. The percentage shares of top 10 source countries availing e-Tourist Visa facilities during April, 2016 were as follows:
In terms of percentage shares of the top 10 source countries, the UK led the list with 18.82 per cent, followed by the USA (14.08 per cent), Russia (8.16 per cent), France (7.12 per cent), China (6.31 per cent), Australia (4.67 per cent), Germany (4.32 per cent), Canada (3.70 per cent), Thailand (2.09 per cent) and the Netherlands (1.93 per cent).
The percentage shares of top 10 ports in arrivals on e-Tourist Visa during April, 2016 was led by New Delhi Airport (46.48 per cent), Mumbai Airport (19.09 per cent), Goa Airport (9.96 per cent), Bengaluru Airport (6.48 per cent),Chennai Airport (5.55 per cent), Kochi Airport (3.02 per cent), Kolkata Airport (2.50 per cent), Hyderabad Airport (2.23 per cent), Trivandrum Airport (1.44 per cent) and Amritsar Airport (1.37 per cent).
