Located in proximity to Srinagar, Gulmarg’s beauty makes it one of Asia’s premier hill destinations. Originally called ‘Gaurimarg’ by shepherds, Gulmarg was discovered in the 16th century by Sultan Yusuf Shah, who was inspired by the sight of its grassy slopes emblazoned with wild flowers. The Gulmarg skiing season, which starts in mid-December, offers an adventurous experience. Gulmarg Gondola is Asia’s highest and longest cable car. Beyond Khilanmarg, 13 km from Gulmarg, at the foot of Apharwat peaks, lies a lake which remains frozen until mid-June. Gulmarg is also home to the longest golf course in India, which has the longest dual sided driving range of over 600 yards.
