Hong Kong travellers spent the most while staying in India: Survey
Travellers from Hong Kong spent the most per hotel room night while staying in India in the first six months of 2015, according to Hotel Price Index. On an average they paid INR 8,325 per night in this period, which is four per cent higher than the price paid in the same period last year. Hotels.com, the global hotel bookings expert has revealed the list of top spenders in India in its latest Hotel Price Index (HPI). The HPI is respected as the definitive report on average hotel prices paid per night across the world.
The report also revealed that Swiss travellers, who took the top position for two consecutive years (2013 and 2014), slipped down this year, taking the fifth position thereby making way for visitors from the United States, United Kingdom, Singapore and Hong Kong.
Overall there was a decline in the spending patterns of international travellers visiting India as compared to the first half of last year. Travellers from Hong Kong, the United States, United Kingdom and Singapore saw a marginal rise in the price paid per night in India in the first half of 2015. Italians who recorded the largest increase last year ranking third on the top spenders list, saw the biggest fall this year with a decline of 17 per cent in prices paid per night year-over-year and thus exiting the top ten ranking of the spenders list. Meanwhile travellers from Brazil, South Korea, Japan, Germany and Australia helped secure their countries on the top spenders list by grabbing the sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth places respectively.
