I was fortunate to meet Saroj Datta, former executive director, Jet Airways, at the CAPA Aviation Summit in February 2015 at The Leela Mumbai. He was one of the panelists at the event and I waited to hear him speak and share his wealth of knowledge on the aviation sector. Though he looked weak physically, his words and vision of the aviation industry were sharp as always. At the end of the session, I walked up to him and said, “Sir you are a living legend in the world of Indian aviation and you never stop teaching me the nuances of this industry through your wealth of experience.” He replied, “Reema, you are always generous in your words, and you are doing a good job. Keep up the good work.” Motivating words indeed from an aviation expert who was also known for his no nonsense attitude. RIP Saroj Datta. The aviation industry has lost its visionary.
